We have developed the High-Energy Radiation Drain (HERD), a new type of infrared-blocking filter for quantum computing applications.

Unlike commonly used copper-powder or Eccosorb filters, HERD combines very low ripples and insertion loss in the passband with high rejection in the stop band. Our first prototype achieves <0.15dB insertion loss up to 12 GHz and over 60dB attenuation at frequencies between 60 and 145 GHz, directly measured with a high-end vector network analyzer.  HERD is also completely non-magnetic, a key feature in many quantum computing applications.

HERD is a patent pending solution. More details can be found in this preprint.
