Preprint published: Real-time detection of correlated quasiparticle tunneling events in a multi-qubit superconducting device
Publication Research highlight February 5, 2026
Every so often, a superconducting quantum processor just… goes blank. A sudden burst of energy inside the chip can disrupt many qubits at once, temporarily wiping out performance across the device. What if we could make those blackouts rarer, more localized, and much shorter?
Well, we didn’t eliminate these blackouts (yet) 😉 But we did develop a simple, highly accurate way to detect them in real time, including correlated bursts picked up simultaneously by multiple sensors on the same chip. Then we started mapping how often they happen, how far they spread, and how long they last. Curious? Check out our latest preprint: https://arxiv.org/abs/2602.01945
